Bab Bou Jeloud the Blue Gate in Medina

Fes, Morocco

Bab Bou Jeloud, commonly known as the Blue Gate, functions as one of the main entrances to the ancient Medina of Fes. Built in 1913, this large monumental structure features three horseshoe arches, with the central arch being the largest. The facade is heavily decorated with intricate blue tilework that exemplifies traditional Moroccan craftsmanship and Islamic geometric patterns. A red Moroccan flag is mounted on the beige wall to the right of the gate. Pedestrians continuously walk through the arches, moving between the modern streets and the historic walled city. Several cars are parked or driving near the paved roundabout in front of the gate. Adjacent buildings house small shops and cafes along the street leading up to the entrance. The busy atmosphere around this iconic architectural landmark is captured in a comprehensive 360-degree panorama.
