The Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, Morocco, is one of the most remarkable structures in the world, completed in 1993 under the commission of King Hassan II. Designed by French architect Michel Pinseau, it is the largest mosque in Africa and the third-largest in the world. Its minaret, which stands at 210 meters (689 feet), is the tallest globally, and the mosque’s unique location on a promontory overlooking the Atlantic Ocean symbolizes the Quranic verse describing God’s throne as being on water. The mosque’s exterior showcases a stunning blend of traditional Islamic architecture and modern engineering. Adorned with intricate zellij (mosaic tilework), carved stone, and plasterwork, the facade reflects the rich craftsmanship of Moroccan artisans. The minaret features a laser beam that shines towards Mecca, and the building’s exterior lighting harmonizes with its natural surroundings, highlighting the changing colors of the sky and ocean.
In this presentation, I showcase a virtual tour of the Hassan II Mosque, consisting of 9 panoramas that I created to provide a comprehensive view of the mosque’s exterior. This tour allows viewers to experience the grandeur of the mosque and its surroundings from anywhere in the world, further emphasizing its significance as a cultural and spiritual landmark.
