Seffarine Square streets of Medina

Fes, Morocco

Seffarine Square forms the traditional center of the coppersmiths' trade within the historic Fes Medina. The square and its surrounding streets have been dedicated to metalworking since at least the 16th century. Artisans work by hand using traditional hammers to shape copper and brass into decorative trays, lanterns, and enormous communal cooking vessels rented out for local weddings. The rhythmic sound of their hammering constantly echoes through this part of the old city. The scene is captured in this 360-degree panorama, showing the craftsmen operating in narrow workshops directly facing the stone-paved square.
