Traditional Moroccan babouches shop

Essaouira, Morocco

This traditional shop in Essaouira features a massive display of traditional Moroccan babouches packed tightly together from the floor to the ceiling. The walls are completely covered with hundreds of these pointed-toe leather slippers arranged in dense vertical columns grouped by color. Below the main wall displays, lower wooden shelves and glass cases hold even more varieties of the relaxed-fit footwear. Small wooden stools sit on the white tiled floor for customers trying on the soft leather shoes. A young shop assistant can be seen looking down through an opening in the patterned ceiling next to a blue wooden ladder. A customer stands in the adjacent room visible through a doorway. The dense arrangement of goods within this compact retail space is captured in a detailed 360-degree panorama.
